Mostly, the name of enzymes consists of two parts:
- The first part consists of the name of the substrate on which an enzyme works.
- Second, the suffix ″ase″ is added to the name of the substrate.
Lipases, Hexokinase, etc.
Enzymes are also named according to the reaction they catalyze.
Oxidases, reductases etc.
Some names of enzymes are historical. They have no relationship to substrate or reaction type.
Pepsis, trypsin, etc.
Some enzymes are named according to the substances synthesized in a reaction.
